About GBT

Since it’s founding in 1973, by Joni Messler, the company has enriched the lives of hundreds of dancers while contributing to the cultural arts in our community. The Gainesville Ballet Theatre is a pre-professional non-profit regional ballet company.

The company cultivates talented dancers with a varied repertoire of classical and contemporary ballet. GBT productions also feature many diverse styles of dance by resident and guest choreographers.

“The Little Match Girl” is Gainesville Ballet Theatre's cultural gem. Joni Messler created this original ballet in 1978 from the enchanting story written by Hans Christian Andersen. This heartwarming ballet enhances the holiday spirit and is performed seasonally at the Curtis M. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.
