About Gainesville Ballet Theatre

Outreach

Gainesville is well known for the academic quality of the University of Florida, and their outstanding athletics. The County is enriched with natural environments such as the Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park, and the Devil’s Millhopper Geological State Park. The community experiences a stimulating cultural climate with the University of Florida Performing Arts, the Hippodrome State Theatre, The Hoggetowne Medieval Faire, Dance Alive National Ballet, the Downtown Festival & Art Show and the Sante Fe College Arts Festival.

Gainesville Ballet Theatre strengthens this cultural enrichment by focusing on the youth in our community. The Company’s “Performance Series for Children & Youth” was established in 1996 and has exposed the art of dance to thousands of school age children. Each year, on the Friday morning of our productions, GBT invites school children from Alachua and surrounding counties to attend a shortened version of our performances. More than ten years ago the “Be Our Guests” program was initiated. This program provides complimentary tickets to schools with an under-represented population of students who are economically disadvantaged and to students who are developmentally challenged. Please contact GBT if your school or class is interested in our “Performance Series for Children & Youth” and the “Be Our Guests” program.
